What to Gather for Personal Taxes
Bring or securely upload the documents that apply to your tax situation.
Identification & Household
- Photo ID for taxpayer and spouse, if filing jointly
- Social Security numbers or ITINs for taxpayer, spouse and dependents
- Dates of birth for taxpayer, spouse and dependents
- Prior-year federal and state tax returns, if available
Income
- W-2 forms
- 1099 forms for interest, dividends, retirement, unemployment or other income
- 1099-NEC or 1099-K forms for self-employment/gig income
- Social Security benefit statements
- Investment or brokerage tax statements
Dependents, Education & Childcare
- Childcare provider information and amounts paid
- Form 1098-T and education expense records
- Student loan interest statements
Home & Other Tax Records
- Mortgage interest statement (Form 1098)
- Property tax information
- Health insurance marketplace Form 1095-A, if applicable
- Charitable contribution records
- Estimated tax payment records
- IRS or state tax notices
