What to Gather for Personal Taxes

Bring or securely upload the documents that apply to your tax situation.

Identification & Household

  • Photo ID for taxpayer and spouse, if filing jointly
  • Social Security numbers or ITINs for taxpayer, spouse and dependents
  • Dates of birth for taxpayer, spouse and dependents
  • Prior-year federal and state tax returns, if available

Income

  • W-2 forms
  • 1099 forms for interest, dividends, retirement, unemployment or other income
  • 1099-NEC or 1099-K forms for self-employment/gig income
  • Social Security benefit statements
  • Investment or brokerage tax statements

Dependents, Education & Childcare

  • Childcare provider information and amounts paid
  • Form 1098-T and education expense records
  • Student loan interest statements

Home & Other Tax Records

  • Mortgage interest statement (Form 1098)
  • Property tax information
  • Health insurance marketplace Form 1095-A, if applicable
  • Charitable contribution records
  • Estimated tax payment records
  • IRS or state tax notices
